These low-performing students spend every day in school enduring punishing conditions which they must view as being extremely unfair. Being foreclosed from a middle-class life that higher education affords surely magnifies the consequences as much as a hundred dollar reward.KDeRosahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06853211164976890091noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25541994.post-68890637806641437962008-02-06T23:17:00.000-05:002008-02-06T23:17:00.000-05:00I never said that only this type of program was un...I never said that only this type of program was unfair, and I think you took some of my comments out of context:

"I suspect a program that doesn't pass the adolescent sniff test for fairness will alienate rather than motivate students, with the consequences magnified because of the money stakes" [emphasis added].

That's true whether the fairness issue is being frustrated/bored out of one's skull or distributing money for test scores. To that extent, the issue of heterogeneous groupings is a red herring.Sherman Dornhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00491045214079619658noreply@blogger.com
